This was a long pending post which had to be uploaded.. I felt this was the right time to post this recipe. As most of you had requested for the authentic South Indian rasam powder, so here it is from my Grandma's kitchen, since this is her recipe passed on to generations...
This is widely known as Bellary Sarina Pudi too which has its own history..
Ingredients:
Coriander seeds - 1 cup
Cumin seeds - 1/4 cup
Peppercorns - little lessen than cumin seeds (less than 1/4 cup)
Fenugreek seeds - 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 2 tsp
Red chillies (byadgi) - 1 handful
Oil - 1 tsp
Method:
Dry roast coriander seeds on medium flame till it turns aromatic and slightly golden. Keep it aside.
Then roast cumin seeds and peppercorns separately.
Now roast fenugreek and mustard seeds together till fenugreek turns out golden and mustard seeds splutter. Then roast the chillies with oil until crispy. You can also dry roast some curry leaves and add it.
Grind all the ingredients to a coarse powder and store it in an air tight container. Use a tsp of this powder when making rasam or saaru..
Will share the recipe of saaru soon..
Enjoy Cooking...
