Guggari

    This a protein rich food which can be eaten as it is for an evening snack or with Chapathi.
This is also called as usli in some parts of Karnataka.


Ingredients:

Black Channa - 1 cup
Salt to taste
Fresh grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Green chillies - 3 to 4
Oil - 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Channa dal - 2 tsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 5 to 10
Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida - 1 pinch


Method:

Wash and soak the channa for atleast 4 to 5 hrs.

Pressure cook it with little salt for three whistles.

Now heat a pan and add oil. Add mustard seeds.

Once it splutters , add channa and urad dal. When they turn golden brown, add curry leaves and chopped green chillies. Fry well.

Now add turmeric and asafoetida.

Strain the water from the channa and add the channa to the pan. Mix well.

Cook for five more minutes and add little salt as required. 

Now add fresh grated coconut and mix well. Turn off the heat.

Serve hot as an evening snack.
